CommentI placed an order on 7/28 with the standard ground shipping. my package was promptly shipped and arrived on exactly the day UPS said it would. although the latter wasn't something J&R can take credit from, their service was efficient.

Commenti ordered a Zalman ZM1000-HP from them through Amazon.com (because they had the best price, and a very good reputation) on July 11,2008. Received it 5 days later through UPS, which means it was delivered in a satisfactory time frame. However, when I opened the box, the box was very poorly packaged, resulted the power suppy to be defective. This wasn't a big deal, it just meant I need to get a replacement. Called up JR, and they sent me another one, giving me return labels. Their method was that I buy another one, and they would refund me the first product. The problem with this is that the second time I "placed the order" the cost was higher, so I called in, and they price matched it to the first item. No problem, a little inconvenient, but nothing drastic.

Second item came, BADLY packaged again. I opened it up, and it suffered from the same issues as the first one: poor packaging, dented power supply -- thus not allowing me to mount it on my pc case. Called it in the next day, telling them I waited 2 weeks for this, and it's still not good. I sent them pictures of the packaging and the damage that resulted from poor packaging (along with a picture from the internet on how a GOOD one should look like), and they said they would check the item before it shipped, and they would package the item better. They said they would check the item before it goes out (that way, I can assure it wasn't the fault of the place that sent them the power supply) and if they packaged the item better, I should get a GOOD power supply.

3rd one came, 8/1/2008, and I was EXTREMELY dissatisfied to find that the box was STILL poorly packaged. The power supply (ONCE AGAIN) suffered from the SAME DENT, at the SAME place. I called in today 8/2/2008 to be greeted by a representative named Julie, who was very uncourteous and just wanted to get the job done (instead of providing me with service, she just wanted to finish with whatever she had, as if she was having a bad day) which gave me a bad sense of the organization. Granted, she did follow through and told me she would send me return labels.

Obviously if I go for a 4th time, I would be EVEN MORE disatisfied with my order, as it would probably be the same thing. I'm done wasting time and money on this item, as I should've ordered it from Newegg.com in the first place. I've NEVER had any issues with them, and their customer service is VERY QUICK AND PROMPT, and are EXTREMELY courteous.

I've ordered from JR.com before (Nikon D300), and now I'm worried about THAT item will fail due to poor packaging.

My dealings with them left me very inconfident of their dealings, and I will NOT purchase from them anymore. Not listening to their customers is an extreme issue that I believe should've been corrected the first time!

CommentI used to like JR for music and videos as well as some electronic, but my last several experiances with them told me to STOP using them.

There order process indicates items available, then you receive emails indicating its out of stock. Then they ship what they think is a viable alternative but it really is not.
When you talk to Customer No Service, they tell you one thing and do another.

I've shopped the internet for more than 10 years and have see the full monty and they have become one of the worst online retailers I have ver done business with.
Note, my last attempt was in late 2006 and I have not even bothered to go to their site any more. Enough said!

CommentI got a decent deal on a 43mm wide angle lens. I was unsure of dealing with this website due to other reviews, but stuck by for the great price. A little slow on the shipping, but well within their expected dates. I will very certainly be using J&R again in the future, as I appreciate a price-matching certified dealer.

CommentBunch of NYC theives. Ordered a Canon XTI black body SLR camera. $519. Thought it was a great deal. Got email and phone calls back about BS credit card info verification. Nothing but stall tactics and good ol' fashioned NYC bait and switch. They tried to sell me other cameras and lenses that I did not need. People on the phone were horrible with their accents and manners. Horrible service. Would not recommend to even monkeys and apes.

CommentI ordered .Mac from J&R at a significant discount compared to the Apple Store. I appreciated being able to use Google Checkout, as it is very fast. J&R shipped the item the next day, despite an estimate of 3-5 days before shipping. The product arrived the next day without my paying for next day shipping. Overall, an easy and quick process and a great deal.

CommentWORST STORE EVER. I called to order a laptop, because I wanted to make sure that they have the laptop in stock I called (I did not order online). They said yes we have it in stock and we will ship it to you. You will be receiving it by by the end of the week, worst case scenario beginning of next week. I said OK ship it. A day or two later they called to tell me that they had shipped it and it should be coming to my house by the end of the week, worst case scenario beginning of next week. On Saturday the same week 6/14/08 I was waitting at home for the shipment when an e-mail came that they don't have it in stock and I have to wait for a backorder. I immediately called to see what is going on here. They said we don't have it and we will not have it. So I ended up loosing 5 days waiting for an order that they twice confirmed that they have when they actually didn't. Later I was put on a backorder, and luckily I called to find out that there is no backorder as the item will no longer be available for sale. This people are the WORST STORE. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY LIED TO ME TWO TIMES FOR ONE ORDER. NEVER BUY FROM THEM.

CommentI have ordered a camcorder on June 06 2008. Till EOD June 10 item is not shipped. Called cust svc twice they say it will be shipped, They have already charged my credit card even though the site clearly says that credit card will be charged only when/after the item is shipped.

They may not have stock of the camcorder but they just say that it will be shipped. Poor service.

CommentComparable to Newegg. Great layout, easy to order, good phone CSR's, cheap prices, midprice on shipping, quick shipping. Ordered on the 8th, shipped on the 9th, got my tracking number on the 10th. Of course, I like to have the tracking number asap - but as long as the package ships out - who cares.

I WILL shop here again...

CommentOn June 3rd I ordered a Panasonic DMC-TZ5K camera, spare battery and via email after the order, added two 4GB memory cards. Shipping was free. Everything arrived on June 5th in perfect condition. I've had a number of email purchases, most positive, but this one takes the cake. I'll certainly do business with J&R again.

CommentFantastic service! I ordered a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L lens at the last minute with 2 day shipping and I was worried I wouldn't get it by Friday (going on vacation). I knew they allow 1-2 business days to process the order so I called up CS and they expedited the billing process so they could ship it same day for me! That was fantastic! I received the item today, on time, and I'm looking forward to using the lens extensively while I'm gone.

CommentOrdered a Canon videocam on June 1 by phone, talked to Phil. On June 3, I noticed the J&R price had dropped $50, so I called Phil back. He said my order was already processing, but he could credit back the $50 to my credit card. On June 5 the camera was delivered -- 4 days on free shipping! I had an excellent experience with Phil and J&R, will be doing more shopping there.

CommentI have ordered from J&R for years and rarely had a glitch. When something went awry, the customer service follow through was top notch on the telephone. Along with Amazon, J&R is the one online vendor I'll turn to first.

CommentThis store clearly does not have its act together. I have been watching carefully for the Nikon 70-200 lens to come back in stock, as it has been back ordered for months. After watching the site daily, I found that it was back in stock and immediately placed an order on a Wednesday morning. I called later in the day to make sure it had gone through and CS said it had, no problems. I called again on Thursday morning and was told the order would ship "today." Called back Friday to get a tracking number, and guess what, the item is "backordered" and did not ship. No attempt to explain the problem, no idea when the order would be shipped, just a "so sorry, we'll ship it when we get a new shipment, whenever that may be." Either their inventory control system is non-existent, or they simply lie about stock to get you to place an order. I should have known and ordered from a more reliable retailer, one who actually has what they say the have.

CommentI am a little surprised to see J&R's rating as low as it is. My experience with them has been fine, with a couple of small caveats. J&R has good selection, good pricing, and accurate order filing. I have never experienced the pressure some others mentioned -- to the contrary. My only caveats: product descriptions are not always all they should be (they are sometimes written by people who are ignorant of the product - good example, the description of the NIKON 18-200mm DX lens neglected to mention that it was, indeed, the VR model -- a very important fact) and while the shipping times are accurate once it's "out the door", J&R always takes more time than I would think necessary to get the product out the door. With those caveats, I can readily recommend J&R.

CommentI purchased a number of Polk Audio speakers from J&R, and I'll admit, I was a little wary when I received an email saying I needed to call their credit department to confirm the order. I have read enough reviews of other sites to know the warning signs. I had a little trouble getting through at first, but once I was connected it was a very simple call. They told me that the phone number on file with my credit card company did not match the one in my order. I had to call my credit card company and lo and behold, they were right. My credit card company still had my old phone number on file. While I was updating my phone number, I asked the credit card rep how common it was for online merchants to run phone number checks like this. He said it's actually fairly common for larger orders, and he gets about ten calls a day of people needing to update their phone numbers for that very reason. So, to wrap up, I called J&R back and told them my phone number was updated. They called me back in about 30 seconds to confirm it was me, and my order was confirmed. I received my speakers two days later, and they are in beautiful condition. I would definitely shop at J&R again.

CommentI ordered an expensive camcorder from them because they advertised price matching. Rather than buying from the cheaper but unfamiliar store, I ordered from J&R and asked for price match.

It's like pulling teeth. First, they said the store is not an authorized dealer, so they can't price match. But I found the store in the manufacturer's authorized dealer list. I told them that and they begrudgingly went to the web site to confirm.

Then they offered me a price somewhere between their original price and the cheaper store's price. I was like, huh, why are they making me an "offer", shouldn't they just match the price? They said no problem; I was put on hold while they figure out the next hurdle.

Then the came up with another offer and said that's because J&R has free shipping, so they have to add shipping cost to the match price. I went to the other store and found they also have free shipping. I told J&R this and they finally agreed to match the price.

After this, there is no other problem. The camcorder arrived in new and good condition without delay.

CommentJ&R is the worst company to do business with. I ordered a computer,they left a message at my work to confirm that I am really me, I guess a cheater thinks everyone else are cheaters too. After their fraud department held up the order for two weeks, the computer I originally bought was no longer made, nice of them to tell me before I ordered it. I asked them to call me when the replacement came in to confirm pricing and specs, which they agreed to. They also said they would waive the shipping to compensate for the inconvenience. They never called me, I called back several times but the salesperson was always "off" when I called. Finally they claim they shipped it anyway. I received an email invoice which included the shipping charge and the prices for all the items were wrong. After arguing over the pricing for an hour I canceled the order. They claimed that it had already shipped and that they would have to charge me for return shipping. I never saw a delivery notification so I don't believe they shipped it but they charged me anyway. I will never buy anything from them again.

CommentVery good customer service and quick shipping. I ordered a camera case for my Canon XH-A1, Senneiser HD 280 headphones, a sony tripod and a miniDV rewinder. The only problem I had was that my case was too small with the lens hood for my camera. The case was advertised as fitting my camera. I called them, and they let me exchange the camera case with NO restocking fee. I will continue to do business with them in the future.

CommentI ordered a Canon lens for $689.99 on the 29th of April. The next day, I got the message below:

"Unfortunately, your order has not shipped. We’d like to request that you advise your credit card issuer of your most recent home telephone number associated with this card. Please advise us when this is done and we’ll be able to get your item shipped without further delay."

BS. I don't have to provide my telephone number to them for a sales call, that's what email is for. In fact the only thing I needed to provide was my home address, the same as the billing address. Well, I called their "credit department" and got a recording. Called again twice and got hold of some lady who said that she had to "Verify" the order. Verify what? She said that it was their policy to verify orders over $500. Fine, harass your best customers... okay, fine. CALL ME. They didn't! In fact, though they had me on the phone, they INSISTED on calling me back at that number, right away. They didn't. Half an hour later and I had to leave.

Fast forward about four hours and I call again. Get somebody ense... THEY said they'd call me back. Again, half an hour passes and I have to go again. Can't sit around waiting for their call. I come back later and call their customer service desk to see what's up. Customer service rep says that they don't have the lens in stock! I ask, "Does that mean that you never had it in stock, sold MY lens, or that you have my lens waiting to ship out when you "Confirm" my order." She said she didn't know.

Well, I cancelled my order and at least that part went well. They had never charged my credit card and I got an email confirmation later that day.

Here's the kicker, they JACKED UP the price to $829 between my first and second calls. No, I don't think that they were trying to charge me that in the end, however they DON'T have the item in stock. But, they still show it in stock on the web site! Why didn't they level with me?

FOLLOW-UP on 07 May:
I'm not going to call BS on J&R's response, however I will say that the number I provided was my office number. My office means that I run the office... I am the boss, this is my phone, and those answering it know whose phone it is. Your reply is incomplete as it didn't answer my core question. Did you have the lens in stock? Were you trying to verify my address, it's EXACTLY the same on my invoice as my billing address. I'm a professional and had to defer business for three days because I was unable to get the lens from you. I have the lens, case, and DVD's now... Ordered them from another company that I'll not name here. I appreciate your time and efforts to resolve this after the fact and really wish that you had been more responsive initially, such as actually shipping the lens, case, and blank DVD's to my credit card address as I had contracted with you to do. You've lost a customer for life.

CommentI registered for this site for the sole purpose of leaving this review, which should tell you how satisfied I am with J&R. They shipped quickly, and when I saw people haggling a lower price at a different site, they gladly and quickly pricematched it.

They were friendly and seemed to genuinely want to help me. I'm going to look at J&R first whenever I'm buying online.

CommentThis is the second time I have used this company to purchase several Blu-ray DVDs at a GREAT price, some as low as $7.99!! Shipping is slow, but both times I got all disks as expected. People are WAY to impatient. If I am getting a great price, I can wait on shipping. As long as they get to me, I’m happy.

CommentOn March 21, I ordered several titles from the Lionsgate Blu-ray Sale J&R was having, they were all showing in-stock "ships in 1-2 business days" on their website. On March 24 I emailed them asking what the status of my order was and never received a response. On March 26 I emailed them once more asking the status of my order, still no response. Finally on April 2nd I emailed them asking to cancel my order because they were unable to ship it in a way over average time frame. They emailed back almost instantly saying my order was canceled. Then again on April 2nd I received an email from J&R offering a substitute because my order had been canceled plus free ground shipping. When I emailed them regarding the offer one of their Lead Representative's Amelia emailed me back saying the offer was actually only for free shipping. The email clearly states "We would like to offer you the opportunity to receive a substitute or alternative item by calling our Toll Free Sales department at (800) 806-1115 and speaking with one of our sales representatives referencing your canceled order number. As an accommodation for your understanding and loyalty to J&R, we will ship you your new selection for FREE." To me substitute is a item of equal value for the same price I originally was promised. I tried to give them another shot and they just don't seem interested in keeping their customers satisfied which is a disappointment.

CommentI placed an order with J&R on 3/21 for 2 items that promised 1-2 days shipping. After waiting nearly a week (4 business days), the items still had not shipped.

I then called to cancel my order and they even offered me free shipping. I still canceled since I don't like to reward vendors like J&R that make promises that they can't deliver.

CommentAfter searching for the Planon Portable Pen scanner I found J&R had the best price, plus I went to there store and got there weekly flyer which advertised a $20 manufacturers mail-in rebate. I ordered it online after calling there customer service number rep who said the mail-in rebate form would be in the box. It took them 5 days to ship it even thought it was in stock not backorederd, not drop-shipped. Product arrived fine but without rebate form. I called, they said I have to download it from J&R website. It's not there, then they said I have to get it from Planon. Planon website didn't have it and they told me there is no Manufacturers rebate. I called back J&R who said I have to fax them a copy of the ad, which I did. Then they told me it was not there problem it was Planons fault becasue Planon approved the ad. They also offered to refund my entire purchase if I returned the scanner at there expense ( why ? I was perfectly happy with the scanner ?). I threatend to complain to the NYC Consumer Protection dept. and then J&R agreed to send me a check for $20. It was there mistake printing a rebate that didn't exist. They just didn't they should pay for there mistake.

CommentI'm very dissatistifed with J&R.
Their processing of an order takes much longer compare to other online companies. However I want to compliment my pleasant experiences with customer service department. I rarely had to wait. They receive phone calls instantly.

I ordered Canon EOS 5D Kit on 19th (Wed) with the gift card I purchased from J&R a few days ago. It was cleared on 21 (Friday). I still can't understand why it would take 2 full business days to clear & charge their own gift card. ???

I called Friday afternoon. A customer representative told me that my order will be shipped that day. I called Saturday to know that the billing department didn't even billed my credit card company. I emailed customer service department and got reply saying that he/she will notify billing department to expedite the billing process.

I guess it worked. Today (Monday) morning, I got a phone call from billing department & shipping department to confirm my shipping address. I already purchaed a gift card from J&R and shipped to my home address previously a few days ago. I don't understand why it is necessary to confirm each time I order when billing and shipping addresses are the same. Fortunately I was home to receive a call using 'my home phone'. What's wrong with my cellphone? I use my cell phone more often. If home phone number is necessary for billing, at least provide a space to add cell phone number in member profile so you know where to call in case i'm not home.

Anyway, I thought it was shipped today since I got the call from shipping department to confirm my shipping address. The website still doesn't show that my order was shipped.

I was really excited to get this camera so I can use it for the short trip during this spring break week. J&R ruined it. If I'm lucky, I might get it tomorrow assuming that it was already shipped today. If not, who knows when. I already sold my Leica through ebay and I don't have any camera to take to my trip.

Even though B&H price of the camera was $150 higher than J&R, I should've purchased it from B&H. I purchased other items (lenes and other accessaries) from B&H and they were shipped the same day I ordered them.

If I have to make other purchases in the future and time is an issue, I would not buy it from J&R anymore.

Even the gift card that I purchased... It took them 2 full business days to process and ship... and that's after when I called them and emailed them to expedite my order. If I haven't called and emailed, I'm sure that it might have taken much longer to process.

Having to wait on the phone for 30 min to talk to a customer representative is bad (not J&R - other online companies do), but having to call everyday to check my order status is as bad I think. The website order status is not reliable either. My gift card was shipped on 18th, but the website didn't show that it was shipped. It acutally appeared on 19th.

I think J&R would be perfect if it can process the order faster. As for now, I have to give very poor score based on my two experiences.

CommentWithin the past 2 months I ordered a Brother HL-4070CDW Color Laser Printer with Wireless Interface, and an Iomega 33654 500GB Limited Edition Silver Hi-Speed External Hard Drive from JR.com. My experience with this company has been OUTSTANDING !!! No one can beat what happened with my order of the color laser - I ordered it on Monday, 1/28 and at 11:00 the NEXT DAY it was delivered to my doorstep !!! And I did NOT request or pay for next day shipping !!! A few days later they put the item on sale, and I wrote a short email to their customer service to ask if they would give me a refund for the difference. I got a personalized email from Amelia telling me that they would do so, & the credit immediately showed-up on my card !!! It doesn't matter what I need, JR.com is my ONLY choice !!! Their prices are great, their customer service is fantastic and their shipping/delivery is second to none !!!

CommentI ordered a copy of a windows operating system that was on sale and in stock. My order was not shipped out and notified 3 days later it was canceled. An email was sent to me to call customer service for a substitute. Customer service offered me the same item (full version instead of upgrade though) for 4 times the price and one other alternative for 6 times more. I'm upset they take orders for items not in stock and were unable to give me a break on a suitable alternative. Customer service was polite but did not seem interested in helping me other than trying to sell me the 2 other much more expensive alternatives.

CommentI placed an order on Saturday for a few CD/DVD cases and they were delivered on Tuesday. That's fast service. I have bought from them in the past and always had a good experience. They even included a nice color paper catalog. Rare these days. I would buy from them again.

CommentDO NOT USE J&R. My order took 9 business days to ship an in stock item. I had to make 9 phone calls to them. They had all kinds of excuses, such as they were waiting on my credit card company to verify the purchase or they needed to verify the shipping address. This was after 5 business days. After phone calls 3,5, and 8, they said everything was in order and they would "expedite" my order. To them expedite means further delay. They even said that the PIN on my gift card was incorrect. I will NEVER use them again and would have canceled my order if I wasn't using a gift card. I talked with the supervisor Amelia who assured me my order would ship the day we spoke. I had to make 3 more calls and the last person I talked to said they would upgrade my shipping to next day. Of course it went ground, thanks to him "expediting" my order. TERRIBLE!

CommentI purchased a 2 line phone system and cordless hand sets. I was very pleased with the price. Murchandise was packed well, large plastic bubble thingies. I paid for 2 day delivery and reciever it on the second day after it was shipped. Only thing I did not like was that it took two days to process order. Orderd tuesday night, ships out thursday. I still think the great price was worth the extra day.

CommentPacking was horrible! The ipod was bouncing around in a much larger box without ANY padding.

If the unit had a hard drive instead of a flash drive, it certainly would have been damaged.

RE: Just to be clear, there was NO padding at all, it wasn't a case of the padding being deflated.
